Rome in a Weekend
My boyfriend and I make a deal, since I’m taking a master in London and we
lived in Frankfurt (Germany) we try to see each other at least once every 3
weeks. Because of this, our Christmas gift was a weekend in Rome in January.
Being myself Italian, I couldn’t wait
to show the best places of Rome to my French boyfriend.
Arrival day
Arrived on Friday night, we took an amazing pizza in one of
those little restaurants behind the corner of a small streets, with just Italians
inside. The pizza was amazing
Then we took a nice walk and our Bed and Breakfast was near
the Vatican and we had the pleasure to see Saint Peter almost empty. It was so
majestic. I couldn’t stop admiring it.
Day 1
Morning
Since we were so close to the Vatican, we decided to take a
real tour of it. We visited the Sistine chapel, the Cupola enjoying the amazing
view and the basilica. It is a very recommended tour, we spent €8 for the Sistine chapel, Vatican museums
and gardens; €6 to go have the view from
the cupola and the basilica is free of charge.
We had lunch again in one small place we found getting lost
between small streets, we had the best pasta ever – and I’m Italian
– best recommended pasta to have in
Rome is: Griccia, Carbonara and Amatriciana. You will just fall in love with
it.
Afternoon
Big walk in the centre going through Trevi fountain,
Pantheon, Piazza di Spagna, Piazza Navona. We ended our big walking tour with
an amazing sunset from Villa Borghese, an amazing park in the middle of Rome
with an amazing view and thons of activities, from bike renting to art gallery.
Evening
After the amazing sunset we took a bus to Trastevere, one of
the most characteristic neighbourhoods in Rome, where you would actually find
real romans living there. It’s not a
very touristic area but you will find the best meal deals. We went to a
Restaurant where we got a three courses meal for €15
definetly worth it. After dinner we were exhausted and reached the bed and
breakfast by bus.
Day 2
The second day was very short as we had to take the plane at
6pm so we took the morning for a nice visit in the city.
We went to the Altare della patria, and we visited it's rooms and exibitions, to the colosseum, but we didn’t enter because it would have taken too long, we visited
the Fori imperiali and went back to Transtevere for lunch as we were on a tight
schedule, we preferred not wandering around looking for food, but go to the
cool place we saw the evening before.
Around 3 pm we went to get our luggage at the bed and
breakfast and headed to the Temini station to get our train to the airport.
Overall an amazing trip, full of smiles and warm laughs,
amazing views and important monuments.
Considering we had a limited time, we saw the most we could,
taking our time and enjoying as much as possible the city without rushing
Have you been in Rome?
